The Water Resources Department is excited to offer a hiring bonus for individuals newly hired as Electrical Controls Specialist I's and II's, who may be eligible for a $3,500 incentive at the conclusion of Initial City Probation. To receive the bonus, a new hire must work as an Electrical Controls Specialist for one year and receive a successful performance evaluation. There are multiple vacancies that may be filled at either the Specialist I or Specialist II level.

  • Installing, programming, calibrating, and commissioning various electrical/instrumentation devices, including variable frequency drives, level transmitters, flow meters, radios, and power monitoring equipment.
  • Assisting in the startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of the process control system, including correcting problems with communications and field process variables.
  • Coordinating and acquiring materials and equipment to repair or install at facilities.
  • Performing calibration and verification for the Arizona Corporation Commission on gas regulator stations.
  • Certifying calibration for Inter-Agency flow meters.
  • Interpreting electrical and electronic system designs, plans, specifications, wiring schematics, and basic one-line diagrams.
  • Acting as technical lead on new projects including new gas, water, wastewater facilities, pump stations, plants, etc.
  • Reviewing drawings, plans, specifications, and submittals from the City's Engineering Department or a consultant for utility projects.
  • Enforcing compliance with City standards and technical specifications for utility projects.
  • Providing technical and inspection assistance to the City of Mesa Construction Inspectors.
  • Assisting Design Engineers or Engineering companies with design criteria for process controls and electrical distribution projects.
  • Creating, modifying, and updating AutoCAD and/or PDF drawings for new and existing projects.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a four-year electrical apprenticeship OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics, or related field.
  • For Specialist I: Three years of experience as a journey-level Electrician.
  • For Specialist II: Considerable (3 - 5 years) experience as a journey-level Electrician and good (1 - 3 years) experience in the instrumentation field.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
  • Must successfully complete operator qualification training administered by the Energy Resources Department within 18 months of hire/promotion into the class.
  • Experience with industrial controls, switchgears, and starters up to 480vac within an industrial background.
  • Experience with voltages up to 15kv is desirable.
  • Controls experience with an Instrumentation background is desirable.
  • $3,500 hiring bonus at the conclusion of Initial City Probation.
  • Overtime opportunities as required.
  • Safety equipment and training in accordance with OSHA and NFPA 70E.
