Candidates must be living in the Greater Tampa Bay area, and be comfortable commuting to the office 2-3 days/week. Candidates will also need to be comfortable with travel throughout our locations in the Caribbean as needed for local project support. The Electrical / Controls Engineer position requires experience in designing electrical power and control systems for process systems. Experience in seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination industry is a plus, but not required. This role is responsible for Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, Power Distribution/Electrical Engineering, and plant PLC/SCADA programming for large SWRO systems. And for supporting existing facilities with network architecture, enterprise-wide data collection, upgrades, and firewall/security issues. Must be experienced with PLC architecture and programming, SCADA development with FactoryTalk, and general SCADA client/server architecture and implementation. Capable of programming as well as overseeing PLC design and programs of other programmers and engineers. Design, develop, and lead procurement of power system equipment including MCC, Switchgear, distribution, and VFD’s. Capable of developing electrical single-line diagrams. Capable of specifying all power distribution equipment including transformers, switchboards, MCCs, drives, panelboards, etc.

Requirements

  • Strong diverse background in industrial automation (40%); electrical power distribution (40%); and electrical and controls drawing generation using AutoCAD (20%)
  • Plant automation experience in: PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, Ethernet switches, E-Stops, plant process instrumentation, etc.
  • Plant power distribution design experience (primarily 480 V), sizing and applying: switchboards, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, distribution panels, circuit breakers, feeder cables, etc.
  • Experience troubleshooting plant electrical and controls issues, and implementing solutions, both on-site and remotely.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization or project.
  • Teamwork: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals, ensuring seamless integration and communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Electrical or Controls Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of closely related industrial experience required. Water industry experience preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in controls engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and application experience with Allen-Bradley Logix PLC and FactoryTalk View SE HMI and Studio 5000 software strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and application experience with Allen-Bradley PowerFlex and Square D Altivar drives preferred.
  • Plant electrical equipment installation and wiring supervision experience desired.
  • Knowledge of Medium Voltage power distribution, a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical installation design (grounding, cable tray layout, lighting, etc.), a plus.
  • Supervisory experience coordinating electrical contractors, a plus.
  • Ability to travel to the Caribbean and Latin America (up to 35% as needed).
  • Spanish as second language.
  • Professional Engineer license highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and document the overall system control architecture including hardware selection, remote I/O considerations, major sub-system integration, and integration with Seven Seas remote monitoring and potentially the owner’s SCADA.
  • Review project specifications and incorporate requirements into Seven Seas design and equipment / procurement specifications.
  • Prepare engineering documents within specified dates, such as Network Architecture Diagram, Electrical Load List, Instrument list, Instrument Data Sheets, Automated Valve List, Automated Valve Data Sheets, Electrical Equipment List, I/O List, Panel Layouts, Schematic Wiring Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, Loop Diagrams, and other project deliverables in accordance with established procedures, schedule, and budget.
  • Work with other discipline engineers to ensure proper representation of system design in P&ID’s, Facility Arrangements, and other project documentation.
  • Implement electrical and controls designs to support company’s new SWRO plant construction projects and support existing plant operations.
  • Design and evaluate electrical installations for compliance with NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.
  • Design industrial control panels in compliance with UL 508A.
  • Program, commission, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley Logix PLC systems using Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View SE software.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of electrical and controls issues in existing plants.
  • Support electrical and controls portions of startups of equipment in the field.
  • Prepare design and cost estimates for new electrical systems during the bidding phase of new projects.
  • Work directly with customer electrical engineers to complete system installation.
  • Work directly with electrical contractors creating and executing on works scopes and bid packages.
  • Other related duties may be assigned as required.
