About The Position

Johnson College is currently seeking a part-time Residential Wiring Instructor for the upcoming spring 2026 semester, to include evening coverage. Part-time instructors are hired on a term-by-term basis and teach classes that are not covered by full-time instructors. The Residential Wiring Instructor is responsible for delivering instruction in residential electrical systems, preparing students for careers in the electrical trade. The instructor provides both theoretical knowledge and hands-on training, ensuring students develop the skills needed for safe and effective residential wiring installation, troubleshooting, and repair. The instructor is responsible for course development, delivery, and assessment.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in the subject or a related subject taught
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in the area taught
  • Individuals must have strong communication skills, the ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, knowledge of industry standards, assessment skills, and organizational and word-processing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lab courses covering residential wiring, electrical theory, safety practices, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Provide instruction in electrical system design, installation of circuits, panels, outlets, switches, lighting, and service equipment.
  • Train students in the proper use of tools, metrics, testing equipment, and wiring materials.
  • Reinforce OSHA safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and best practices for electrical work.
  • Develop, update, and deliver lesson plans, course materials, and assessments that reflect industry standards and code compliance.
  • Assess student performance through written exams, lab projects, and hands-on evaluations.
  • Mentor and advise students regarding career opportunities in the electrical field.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and grading records.
  • Participation in College activities and events.
  • Enforce college policies and procedures with all students and within their course of study.
