The Career and Technology Electricity Teacher position at the Career and Technology Academy is designed to prepare high school students for careers and post-secondary education opportunities in the electrical trade. The teacher will be responsible for providing appropriate instruction and learning experiences, managing a performance-based electrical technical program, and assisting students in preparing for entry-level jobs in the electrical field.

  • Provide appropriate instruction, learning experiences, and management of a performance based electrical technical program.
  • Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Assist in preparing students for entry level jobs and post-secondary education opportunities in the electrical trade.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance in academic knowledge and skills mastery following required procedures and practices.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work learning environment by monitoring appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Work with Career and Technology Education (CTE) staff members to establish and maintain a team approach to interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Assist in evaluating and validating curriculum with members of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) made up with members of the business community.
  • Identify materials and equipment needed with PAC to maintain and implement an electrical technical program that reflects current industry standards.
  • Work with PAC, employers and community groups to promote and advance the electricity program.
  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community.
  • Participate and support Skills USA and other program related activities.
  • Come to work promptly every day.
  • Work extended hours daily and work flexible hours as necessary.

  • Have a valid teacher's certificate or be eligible under the certification process for Professional and Technical Education Teachers COMAR 13A.12.02.15.
  • Have a Bachelor's or higher degree in a state-approved career and technical program; or a Bachelor's or higher degree in electricity; or an Associate degree in electricity, or a Bachelor's or higher degree and two (2) years satisfactory occupational experience within the past 10 years; or a high school diploma and three (3) years satisfactory occupational experience within the past 10 years.
  • Possess or be eligible for Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 30 hour certification.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local electrical codes and use the National Electrical Code book.
  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and controls.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of the tools and test equipment of the trade such as: wire cutters and strippers, drills, soldering irons, test lamps, voltmeters, ammeters and ohmmeters.
  • Ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings, and use formulas basic to the trade to figure such things as voltage and resistance.
  • Knowledge of the various gages, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel and community members.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed.
