About The Position

Kent is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Commissioning Specialist to support large-scale LNG and Oil & Gas projects in Port Arthur, Texas. In this role, you will assist the commissioning team with electrical system activities, including system testing, basic fault-finding, and verification of equipment functionality. You will report directly to the Commissioning Area Manager for planning and execution support and indirectly to the others Commissioning Discipline Leads for technical guidance. You will also help supervise electrical commissioning activities in assigned plant areas, ensuring coordination with other discipline work, while ensuring systems meet project specifications, HSE requirements, and OEM standards prior to energization and start-up. In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Requirements

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in electrical completion, commissioning and start-up on large-scale Oil & Gas or LNG projects, with proven expertise in power systems, and operational handover.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and subsystems, including power distribution, control systems, motors, switchgear, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing, fault-finding, and commissioning procedures for static and dynamic systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and specifications (IEC, NEC, IEEE, or project-specific standards).
  • Experience with electrical system design, drawings, and documentation, including P&IDs, schematics, and as-builts.
  • Proficiency in commissioning tools, test equipment, and calibration procedures.
  • Understanding safety, environmental, and permit-to-work requirements in LNG/Oil & Gas operations.
  • Knowledge of construction handover, systems completion processes, and operational readiness verification.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, procedures, and project documentation.
  • Awareness of project planning and scheduling processes, including commissioning planning and reporting.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrates sound technical judgment appropriate to experience level and seek guidance when required in commissioning and troubleshooting environments.
  • Ability to analyze electrical system issues methodically and propose practical solutions under supervision.
  • Willingness to collaborate with senior engineers and OEM representatives while confidently communicating observations and findings.
  • Takes ownership of assigned tasks and shows accountability for accuracy, system reliability, and documentation quality.
  • Supports technical discussions and works effectively with cross-functional teams (electrical, I&C, mechanical, operations) to resolve control-related issues.
  • Maintains strong situational awareness during equipment startup and testing activities.
  • Communicates technical information clearly to team members and field personnel.
  • Performs effectively in fast-paced environments while maintaining professionalism and composure.
  • Demonstrates organized work habits and disciplined documentation to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Shows commitment to workplace safety and follows established safety procedures and best practices.
  • Physically capable of performing field-related duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs. when required.

Responsibilities

  • System Owner for electrical systems/subsystems within the assigned area.
  • Coordinate with CMT, Start-Up, and Operations to ensure smooth commissioning and handover.
  • Lead and supervise technicians, vendors, and subcontractors during commissioning activities.
  • Support Area Commissioning Leads on electrical issues and execution.
  • Plan work scope, resources, and schedules.
  • Monitor and report progress, productivity, and performance against targets.
  • Prepare work packs and ensure availability of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain commissioning data, documentation, and systems completion records.
  • Ensure compliance with project design, standards, and procedures.
  • Oversee testing, certification, and handover documentation quality.
  • Support development of commissioning procedures and startup plans.
  • Manage commissioning requirements for tools, equipment, and spares.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, competency, and performance of the team.
  • Coordinate vendor and specialist activities with Commissioning Lead.
  • Support turnover from construction and handover to operations.
  • Ensure systems are fully tested, operational, and ready at handover.
  • Enforce safety, environmental, and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Maintain safe work practices including isolations, JSAs, and toolbox talks.
