About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking an Electrical/Cabling Engineer to support our customer in Chesapeake, VA. The Electrical/Cabling Engineer will report to the Senior Design Engineer/Integrator and will primarily be responsible for providing cabling support and preparing Cable Impact Statement and Cable Run Sheets to ensure that equipment is properly cabled for effective communication with other equipment and systems on board Naval ships. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Requirements

  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field.
  • Client experience requirements: Between 0 to 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Client education requirements: BA/BS degree in Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Marine or Naval Architecture, or a relevant field; Candidate must have an undergraduate degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • 4 years of additional equivalent experience can be substituted for a BA/BS degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and eager-to-learn attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • An active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience in cable design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with shipbuilding or industrial environments.
  • Experience with cable testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand combat system (e.g. Aegis) specifications and the General Specification for Overhaul (GSO).
  • Determine the correct cable type required to support equipment being installed based on Aegis specifications and the GSO.
  • Identify the proper connectors and back shells for electrical/cabling.
  • Identify how cables shall be pinned internally.
  • Provide the Cable Impact Statement and Cable Run Sheets to support delivery of the TDP.
  • Prepare and maintain ECNs to drawings in support of AWS deliverable cable sets.
  • Provide all required information to the Senior Design Engineer/Integrator to develop the Cable Block Diagram in the TDP.
  • Verify cable numbers for every cable and maintain Configuration Management of the cables.
  • Suggest options and alternatives for cabling when required.
  • Provide Power Sourcing requirements to support delivery of the TDP.
  • Develop Power Point presentations as required.
  • Participate in ship checks to accomplish cabling/electrical surveys to support TDP development.
  • Participate in meetings and phone conferences when required by the government sponsor.
  • Assist in the resolution of cabling issues occurring on the waterfront during equipment installations.
