Leidos’ Defense Systems, Electrical Systems Department is seeking a talented Electrical Cable Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team to create unique solutions to complex engineering challenges in our Huntsville, AL location. The Electrical Systems Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. As a technical contributor, the individual will support a variety of programs to develop electronic assemblies integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Candidate must have 8+ years of experience in hardware system design and test from architecture through implementation or 6+ years with MS degree.
  • Candidate must have experience with technical problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Candidate must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment
  • Candidate must have the ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
  • Candidate must have cable design experience
  • Candidate must have familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 and J-STD-001 Standards
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience specifying mil-spec cable components, including connectors, wire, heat shrink, etc.
  • Candidate must have cable design experience using SolidWorks Electrical, Creo Schematic, Draftsight, or Microsoft Visio.
  • Candidate must have proven understanding of fundamental circuits and circuit components
  • Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Candidate must have ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with leading small to mid-sized technical teams.
  • Electrical design for military hardware or aerospace systems
  • Experience supporting cable production
  • Experience with high power applications
  • Familiarity with AS50881 NASA Derating Standard

Responsibilities

  • System level electrical architecture and design
  • Create and review block diagrams and electrical system requirements
  • Create and review cable specifications and cable drawings
  • Parts selection and derating activities
  • New hardware design verification testing
  • Support system level integration activities
