Electrical Avionics Integration Engineer - Journeyman LOCATION: WPAFB, Dayton, OH JOB STATUS: Full-Time CLEARANCE: Secret, Must be a US Citizen TRAVEL: 10% Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Electrical/Avionics Systems Engineering Support, Journeyman position supporting the Special Operations Forces and Personnel Recovery Division (AFLCMC/WIS), at Wright Patterson AFB, OH. WIS is part of the ISR/SOF Directorate (AFLCMC/WI), which is responsible for equipping our warfighters to win the fight. The Directorate executes a $22 billion acquisition portfolio developing, producing, testing, modifying, fielding, and supporting Air Force ISR and SOF platforms, and related sub-systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field with three years of relevant experience, including DoD support; or seven years of directly related experience with required certifications, including five years of DoD support.
  • Degree must be from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Strong application of engineering principles and problem-solving skills grounded in math, science, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with industry-standard engineering tools, methods, and testing.
  • Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams with a commitment to engineering ethics and professional development.
  • CLEARANCE: Secret, Must be a US Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Apply multidisciplinary engineering expertise to support system development, trade studies, technical advisory services, and lifecycle sustainment.
  • Resolve complex technical and maintenance issues across design, modification, and sustainment programs.
  • Conduct technical analyses of design alternatives, system changes, and integration risks to support decision-making.
  • Review and validate engineering specifications, ICDs, technical data, manuals, and documentation for compliance and accuracy.
  • Develop and review system requirements, engineering changes, baseline updates, and technical justifications.
  • Support airworthiness determinations, MFR development, MIL-HDBK-516 compliance, and OSS&E requirements.
  • Provide technical direction for propulsion systems, electronic sensors, and defensive avionics to ensure performance and survivability.
  • Translate user needs into system requirements; support CDD/CPD development, architecture reviews, and interoperability assessments.
  • Participate in and document outcomes from design reviews (PDR, CDR, FDR), TIMs, TPWGs, and interface working groups.
  • Support source selections and develop engineering inputs for PWSs, RFPs, CDRLs, and acquisition strategies.
  • Serve as an Electrical Engineer on multispecialty teams supporting aircraft R&D, acquisition, production, and sustainment.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, GSE/SE requirements, test data, and overall system performance.
  • Review engineering changes, nonconformance reports, OEM failure analyses, and corrective actions.
  • Support mishap investigations, risk assessments, mitigation planning, and coordination with USAF safety boards and OEMs.
  • Assist with R&M oversight, parts procurement planning, and coordination with Equipment Specialists to address TO and support impacts.
