About The Position

WORK LOCATION: This position allows for a hybrid / flexible work schedule with a mix of work spent on site at the Sargent & Lundy office and working remote from home. This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Power Systems to provide power system modeling and analytical support interdisciplinary project teams. You will be involved in supporting the interconnection of new power generation resources – including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, battery energy storage, and traditional thermal generation, transmission and distribution planning, design of new power plants – including thermal and renewable resources, modifications to existing power generation facilities, power system protection, and integration of new technologies such as electric vehicles, microgrids, and green hydrogen production. Your work will have you perform the following types of studies: Power Flow Short Circuit Protection Coordination Arc Flash Transient and Dynamic Stability Transient Over-voltage Power Quality and Harmonics System Impact Cable Ampacity Grounding Additional activities include electricity market studies and generation planning expansion with expected load growth scenarios There is the potential for you to travel to client offices and project sites to provide on-site consultation

Requirements

  • This position requires an BS in Electrical Engineering (background in Power/Power Systems) with a strong academic background and coursework emphasis in Power Systems Analysis. MSEE or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • 1 or more years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree
  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and technology including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or work experience in performing power analysis, preferably within the power industry
  • Experience performing analysis of power systems using software such as: PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, TARA, CYME, Synergi, ETAP, SKM, PSCAD and EMTP-RV
  • Strong working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training
