Manages employees involved in maintaining and/or building parts of the Electric Operations distribution grid. Supervisors will lead teams working on projects within the City. The Supervisors are expected to provide safe and reliable electric service while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and other regulatory requirements. The leaders fully implement safety best practices and manage employees’ accountability. Supervisors must ensure full compliance with the Safety Program and Polices. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Ensures maintenance and construction work is completed on time and within budget and quality expectations, while monitoring compliance with standards and specifications. Develops and/or executes action plans to address deficiencies in process or employee skill/knowledge and tracks progress of those plans. Ensures resolution to problems adversely impacting the department’s ability to meet business goals and/or customer service objectives. Oversees contractor support crews in scheduling of work projects; monitors project progress and productivity of crews. Provides current, direct, complete and “actionable” positive and corrective feedback to others. Interprets, explains and enforces City policies, procedures, specifications and ordinances. Collaborates with other Electric Operation Supervisors to develop/revise processes and procedures to create better communications among all departmental groups and to develop more efficient and cost-effective work practices. Builds constructive and effective relationships using diplomacy and treats direct reports equitably. Completes and maintains all work documentation and reporting. Effectively utilizes resources by monitoring crew safety and productivity. Identifies and pursues productivity improvements and implements work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting all safety requirements and regulatory compliance. Reviews current work practices for operational efficiencies and deficiencies. Identifies and reacts to complex field decisions, utilizing technical knowledge and experience to move forward quickly, considering safety, quality, customers and cost impacts. Ensures that customers’ needs and expectations are met. Provides clear, professional, proactive communication with customers in a variety of field situations during projects and jobs, while ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards. Facilitates and leads weekly team meetings/tailboards. Regularly visits field work sites to monitor progress, safety and employee performance. Proactively prepares for emergency situations; supports all efforts during emergencies. Supervises employees to accomplish results through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition. Works with Electric Engineering recommends modification to construction specifications as required due to new and improved standards for installation and materials available. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Eight (8) years of full-time work experience in electric utility distribution system maintenance and construction experience.
  • Two (2) years of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • One year of education (30 semester hours) from an accredited college or university or technical school may be substituted for one year of the required work experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
  • Journeyman Level Certification preferred
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.
  • Classification as a Journeyman Lineman or industry equivalent by US Department of Labor.
  • Following electrical safety procedures.
  • Leading and directing staff.
  • Communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Data analysis and problem solving.
  • Using computer and related software programs.
  • Reading electrical hazard warnings and procedure manuals.
  • Solving technical, safety and construction problems.
