About The Position

The Public Works Commission is seeking a skilled and motivated Electric Operations Field Technician II to join our Electric Services Division. What You’ll Do: Install & Maintain: Protective relay components and Smart Grid communication systems. Test & Troubleshoot: Perform functional/startup testing for new distribution equipment, investigate and repair SCADA equipment and microprocessor-based protective relays. Innovate: Implement relay and control circuit changes, perform DNP mapping, and maintain communication equipment interconnections with SCADA/OMS/DMS. Collaborate: Work closely with a dynamic team to develop test methods and maintain accurate records. Excel: Use your expertise in relay logic, SCADA integration, and Smart Grid communications to keep our systems running smoothly.

Requirements

  • Technical Know-How: Deep understanding of electrical theory, relay systems, and Smart Grid technology.
  • Hands-On Skills: Proficiency with SEL protective relays (651R, 751, 2411), calibration, instrumentation, and testing equipment.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly communicate complex technical information, both verbally and in writing.
  • Teamwork: Strong ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Education & Experience: Associate degree/certification in electrical/electronic technology (or related field) + 4 years specialized experience OR High school diploma/equivalency + 7 years specialized experience OR Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Functional Employment Test (FET) required
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
