About The Position

This position is skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines in accordance with standards of the trade. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Electric Line Crew Foreman.

Requirements

High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Successful completion of an approved lineman apprentice training.
Valid Florida Driver's License required and a Commercial Driver's License Class A.
Must qualify as a Journeyman Lineman.
A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualification.
Knowledge of the tools, materials and methods used in line construction and maintenance work.
Knowledge of theory and applications of theory regarding electrical circuits and wiring systems.
Knowledge of the hazards of the trade and necessary safety precautions.
Knowledge of tree limb removal.
Skill in the use and care of line tools and testing equipment is required.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical strength and agility to climb poles and perform heavy manual work under inclement weather conditions.
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.
Reaching, pulling, pushing.
Climbing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping.
Distinguish colors.
Smelling.
Equipment Operation.

Responsibilities

Assists with construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems including stringing wires, setting poles and anchors, and handling transformer, lightning arresters, cutouts, crossarms and insulator.
Work is frequently performed with high voltage lines and under unfavorable weather conditions requiring skill and care to protect the employee's life and the lives of others.
Work may also require installation and maintenance of municipal, commercial and residential electric service.
Installs and repairs a step-down transformer bank, installs pole and pad-mount transformers.
Climbs poles to assist with the construction, replacement and repair of power lines; arresters, lights, transformers, capacitor switches, breakers, cross-arms, t-brackets, and other distribution and transmission equipment.
Installs primary metering and installs 3-phase service and ground wires and cutouts.
Installs "C.T.'s" and "P.T.'s" with instrument metering.
Locates trouble in primary and secondary lines, replaces fuses and clears trouble in lines and circuits.
Operates heavy motorized equipment used in construction and maintenance of electric overhead and underground systems.
Digs holes for poles, repairs bad cables, lays pipe, and sets enclosures.
Works in accordance with, and assists in, enforcing safety rules and regulations.
Places and replaces underground conductors. Sets pad-mounted transformers and clears short circuits in lines.
Responds to trouble calls on the electric system.
Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
