About The Position

Under the direction of a Program and Project Supervisor in the Transportation Fuels Data Collection Unit within the Energy Assessments Division (EAD), the incumbent independently performs at the full journeyperson level varied, complex, technical, and analytical work on the topics of energy generation and use in the petroleum refining industry, including combined heat and power applications. The incumbent may evaluate petroleum refinery power generation and use in relation to refinery operations and evaluate associated costs to the refineries to support the evaluation of a refining margin and to track performance to a margin cap, if developed by the CEC. The incumbent will work with economists to provide technical expertise on refinery operations. The incumbent will serve as a knowledgeable resource on generation technology, markets, and strategic issues as directed and may also play a primary role in coordination and collaboration with other state, federal, and local agencies, as well as other interested stakeholders and the public. The EAD assesses California's electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends to provide information to the state's decision makers and the public. These assessments inform the development, and implementation, of energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals. The Fuels Analysis Branch has primary responsibility for evaluating fossil fuel related industries in California.
