About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking Technical Interns to support the Distribution Design organization in Newport, MN and/or St. Paul, MN. Interns will work closely with Distribution Design staff and Operations, to support the project management process of internal and external customer requested work order creation, from initial application to project completion in the field. Work with Distribution Design staff to support the project management process for internal and external customer requested work orders, from initial application to project completion. This intern position will assist with Distribution Design tasks, including project management, GIS/mapping, visiting project sites for field work, billing, and other office tasks as needed. This position will work with the Company's various IT programs, construction, and other departments to provide electric services/requests to our customers. Please include a detailed summary of the role, the team, and location) This position is for a January 1 or June 1, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Requirements

  • Current student, Sophomore and higher.
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management.
  • Able to commute to the (service centers, plants, or corporate offices, job sites) in the St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN metro area.
  • Driver's License and Personal Vehicle
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher.
  • Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework, including Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management.
  • Experience or Proficiency with project management software, GIS, and other IT systems.

Responsibilities
