About The Position

Harrisburg Middle School is seeking a dynamic, creative, and student-centered educator to serve as an Elective Teacher for grades 7–8, teaching beginning Spanish and leading the student newspaper program . This position plays a vital role in fostering student engagement, communication skills, creativity, and global awareness within a small, supportive school community. The ideal candidate is passionate about building strong relationships, designing engaging and relevant learning experiences, and helping every student find success. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Spanish instruction while also guiding the school’s newspaper program, providing students with authentic opportunities to develop voice, collaboration, and real-world skills.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Teacher’s License with appropriate endorsement and authorization level required.
  • Valid Oregon teaching license with appropriate endorsement(s), or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, supportive relationships with middle school students
  • Strong classroom management and effective communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and the broader school community
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in curriculum design and instructional practices

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in assigned elective subject areas
  • Establish and maintain a classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusivity, and a positive learning culture
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student success and contribute to school and district initiatives
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress; provide timely, meaningful feedback and support
  • Incorporate student voice and choice into elective coursework, projects, and learning experiences
  • Participate in school-wide activities, events, and ongoing professional learning opportunities
