About The Position

In preparation for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of roving Field Election Deputies (FEDs) to provide support to Poll Workers at polling places on Election Day. FEDs serve from approximately 5:00 a.m. to approximately midnight, first visiting and confirming polling places are set up and opened on time, then monitoring procedural compliance and ensuring poll workers are carrying out their tasks properly and following health and safety protocols. Finally, FEDs assist with polling place closing procedures as needed. Each FED is responsible for a territory of approximately 7 to 10 polling places and is provided with a van. To prepare for Election Day, FEDs must complete several training sessions. In addition to the above-listed tasks, the person in this position will be responsible for the range of duties assigned to the 1402 job code: 1402-Junior Clerk | City and County of San Francisco .

Requirements

  • A valid California Driver’s License and a clean DMV record
  • No more than 2 points within the last 3 years, and no more than 1 point in the last year are allowed
  • No DUI’s, reckless driving and endangerment within the last 10 years
  • Regular City driving/ parking experience
  • Experience driving for extended hours (breaks will be provided)
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.

Benefits

  • Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits.
