ELA & Math Tutor - 3rd - 5th Grade
About The Position
St. Pius X Catholic school is hiring a tutor for Math and English Language Arts (ELA) subjects for grades 3 through 5. This small-group tutor works directly in Math and ELA classrooms for 4th and 5th graders, supporting core academic skills. You’ll work mostly with small groups and sometimes one-on-one with students. Ministerial Character: The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 12 credit hours in education; valid state certification preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Passion for learning; committed to supporting academic and personal success, especially for underserved and bilingual students
- Committed and flexible; available to work 10-35 hours per week at an assigned school and participate in monthly training
- Collaborative spirit; ready to work closely with teachers, school leaders, and fellow tutors to maximize student success
- Submit to employment required screenings, criminal background, drug screening, and MVR
- Obtain certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures
Responsibilities
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Provide small group and individual tutoring in core subjects: Math, Reading, Writing, Literacy, and exam preparation
- Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to plan and tailor lessons that help students succeed
- Tutors will design and deliver small-group instruction aligned with Catholic school academic standards, using data-informed strategies to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 students; sessions will focus on targeted skill development, remediation, and evaluating progress while fostering the dignity of each child and integrating Catholic values into instruction and interactions
- Perform other duties as assigned
