About The Position

FUNCTION : To assist the schools’ ELD teachers to provide support for ELs in classrooms. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assist with placement tests and annual state assessments of ELL students Interpret for students in class and assist with translation technology Interpret as necessary for counselors and administration Assist in ELD classroom as scheduled by ELD teacher or building administrator Tutor individual students/small groups Liaison between administration and Spanish-speaking parents Parent-teacher conferences support Other duties as directed by ELD teacher, principal, or program coordinator Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or pass paraprofessional skills test prior to employment; or High school graduate/GED and pass paraprofessional skills test prior to employment.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, SchoolMaster, Word, and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Fluent in written and verbal skills in Spanish and English.
  • Proven organization skills
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before staff
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Office machine and basic computer application skills required
  • Ability to learn new computer application skills and apply them to the job
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, supervisors, students and the public
  • Ability to work on more than one project at a time with interruptions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to adapt to situations quickly.
