About The Position

The EL Assistant is responsible for providing in-class support to English Learner (EL) students under the direction of the EL coordinator/teacher and in collaboration with classroom teachers. This role involves attending assigned classes, assisting with interpreting and translating during meetings, and adapting instructional materials as needed. The position requires adaptability to student schedules across multiple sites and maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience working with students and/or in a multicultural setting preferred.
  • Fluent in English; able to interpret and translate between English and other languages as needed.
  • Must be adaptable to student schedules at multiple sites.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism with parents and school staff.

Responsibilities

  • Attends assigned classes with EL students to provide in-class support with assignments.
  • Provides interpreting and/or translating skills upon request in the educational environment.
  • Assists classroom teachers with translating or adapting instructional materials.
  • Utilizes time before, after, and/or during the school day to meet with teachers and staff.
  • Assists with other duties assigned by the EL coordinator, EL teacher, or site administration.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with district staff and the public.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility regarding student scheduling and staffing needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality standards as set forth by Broken Arrow Public Schools.
  • Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. to support and reinforce materials or skills.
  • Attends after-school conferences or meetings for the purpose of translating when requested.
