About The Position

General Purpose of Job: The EKG/Telemetry Specialist performs cardiology diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (EKG), monitors telemetry, identifies cardiac rhythm changes, maintains equipment, and prepares patient population for telemetry utilization Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider) within 6 months of hire
  • Applicants will be required to successfully demonstrate competencies related to telemetry as assigned by employer 1 year after hire and annually.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification/Training as an EMT, Exercise Physiologist or completed course work/equivalent training in medical terminology, anatomy, cardiac rhythms.
  • Candidates must successfully pass a basic EKG rhythm interpretation exam to be considered for this position.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in computer skills to navigate EMR and EKG specific software.

  • Must demonstrate ability to operate, maintain, and make minor repairs/adjustments to equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience performing 12 Lead EKG - preferred.
  • Previous experience with EKG machines and computerized EKG system - preferred.
  • Previous telemetry monitoring experience - preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrocardiograms on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Prepare patients, operate EKG machine, ensure quality tracings, identify abnormalities, report critical values, prepare data, and assign for physician interpretation.
  • Reconciles completed EKGs in IECG.
  • Assists with training new Caregivers and students in EKG techniques and procedures.
  • Ensures equipment is in sound working condition and clean at all times.
  • Supports ancillary areas as a super user for skills review or annual competencies.
  • Provide technical support including operating, equipment maintenance and minor repairs, and facilitating communication with Information Technology and Clinical Engineering for equipment utilized.
  • Monitors cardiac rate, rhythm and SPO2 levels.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and computer data input
  • Communication of EKG and Telemetry findings with RN
  • Communication of alarm notification to RN
  • Enters data into electronic medical record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
