The EKG Technician is responsible for assisting with diagnostic tests using electrocardiograms to capture patient heart rhythm and rate. This position involves performing EKG tracings for Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals and ED triage, transferring EKG data to Powerchart, creating orders for outpatient EKGs, and signing off on EKGs in Powerchart. The technician will also clean and stock EKG machines for critical care units, perform pacemaker device interrogations in the ED, and manage the unmatched EKG list in Powerchart. The role requires responding to STAT, RTT, and timed EKGs as per department policy, demonstrating skills and knowledge of growth and development, and adhering to safety rules and practices. The technician will report any unsafe activities or conditions to supervisors and perform other related duties as required.

  • Perform EKG tracings for Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals and ED triage
  • Transfer EKG to Powerchart
  • Create order in Powerchart for outpatient EKG
  • Sign as performed by EKG in Powerchart
  • Clean and stock EKG machine for critical care units
  • Perform pacemaker device interrogations in the ED
  • Work the unmatched EKG list in Powerchart, create order as necessary
  • Respond to STAT, RTT and timed EKGs per department policy
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge of growth and development
  • Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices
  • Report unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • High School graduate or its equivalent
  • Basic CCU in-service and medical terminology
  • EKG experience preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
  • Knowledge of EKG machine program format
  • Knowledge of office equipment and machines
  • Ability to learn departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to be efficient and accurate
  • Ability to enter and retrieve information on computer
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to assist with basic EKG training for other departments
  • Ability to use/wear communication devices daily as required
  • Yearly EKG competency and critical results review with certificate of completion
  • BEAT class training upon hire/transfer certificate of completion
  • CPR with AED certification (2 years)
