About The Position

The EKG technician demonstrates excellent customer service performance in their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. This individual is responsible for producing high quality EKG tracings/reports, both routine and specialty tracings. Setting up, applying monitors and educating patients for all tests (including wearable monitoring devices) is expected. The EKG tech is responsible for operating several different types of equipment and computers. It is expected that the EKG technician will ask for and respond appropriately to patient questions and comfort requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification (30 days of hire)
  • Experience and excellence in customer service and patient care
  • Ability to perform all aspects of the EKG tech position
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, with patients, physicians, other healthcare facilities, and the general public
  • All EKG training is completed within department after hire
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Consistent near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, and field of vision
  • Frequently standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, talking, hearing
  • Consistently lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Occasionally reclining, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching and squatting
  • Occasionally lifting up to 100 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology/anatomy/other related courses preferred

Responsibilities

  • Produces high-quality EKGs, recognizing life-threatening dysrhythmias
  • Provides patient and family education/explanation for each step of procedure, as indicated
  • Is competent in all versions of wearable monitoring devices, and EKG (including right- and left-sided, and signal averages), for all age groups.
  • Educates patients regarding their EKG, wearable monitoring devices; and completes log books and data collection as appropriate
  • Completes efficiently all computer and paperwork necessary to effectively conduct business and complete tasks
  • Develops competence in all areas of the job; can function independently; and completes competencies as needed to maintain high professional and technical standards
  • Proactively seeks opportunities that will lead to enhanced performance, meets regularly with department manager and coordinator
  • Assists with seeking/providing necessary information to complete billing, test interpretation, charting, equipment maintenance, patient procedures, etc.
  • Participates in the welcoming, orientation, training and education of new and fellow employees, students and physicians
  • Keeps all equipment, work areas and patient rooms clean, and reports operational challenges immediately using established procedure
  • Completes patient transport, as assigned
  • Works as an integral part of the Center for the Heart Noninvasive team, assisting fellow team members during down/lull times, including Stress, Echo, Management and Administrative Support
  • Attends department and Covenant-wide meetings and participates as indicated in case reviews, problem solving, process improvement, etc., as requested
