About The Position

The EI&C Technician position at Evonik involves providing technical support and maintenance for instrumentation and control systems at the Janesville site. The role focuses on troubleshooting and maintaining the Emerson Delta V and SIS systems, as well as supporting engineering and production teams. The technician will also manage smaller projects and assist with various IT and process control tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the facility's systems.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Information Technology, or similar degree preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience as an instrument, controls, or computer technician within a manufacturing facility or equivalent experience.
  • Good listening skills to understand the need, issue, scope, and/or consequences of an issue.
  • Critical thinker with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, piping, electrical and mechanical systems, Microsoft operating system, ethernet networking, and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • General use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Previous experience in AMS, DeltaV, ASi bus, Profibus, and variable frequency drive experience a plus.

  • Forklift and man-lift operation can be trained after hiring.
  • Experience with respiratory equipment for specific job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the Emerson Delta V and SIS system for both infrastructure and application.
  • Utilize Emerson's AMS or HART communicator to work on instrumentation.
  • Install power carriers, I/O carriers, power supplies and power extenders, I/O cards and controllers.
  • Configure and troubleshoot controllers, I/O cards, modules SFCs, PLMs, EMs, and control modules, and DeltaV networks.
  • Review historian collection and event logs and alarm history.
  • Create and modify DeltaV graphics, Gems and faceplates or detailed display.
  • Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of all instruments controlled or monitored by DeltaV.
  • Conduct critical instrument inspection/calibration and associated documentation and tracking.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process upsets.
  • Engage with external resources for issue resolution until completion.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the site's plant computer systems LAN, camera system and network, telephone system, and facility internet WAN.
  • Perform DeltaV hotfixes and Microsoft security updates.
  • Conduct critical interlock testing and associated documentation and tracking.
  • Troubleshoot any instrument or electrical system up to 480V and gather information on systems of 2300 V and 13,800 V.
  • Troubleshoot, install and/or repair VFDs and other control systems.
  • Assemble automation components such as valves, actuators, and limit switches.
  • Prepare material and cost estimates for work orders for both capital projects and maintenance.
  • Manage smaller projects.
