About The Position

Shaw Plant 78 in Aiken, SC is looking for an EHS Technician to support the facility’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) operations by performing key tasks that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, Shaw Management System (SMS) standards, and industry best practices. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bilingual – Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour course or practical experience in EHS with a strong understanding of OSHA standards

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or 2–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 40% of job responsibilities focused on safety
  • DOT Hazardous Waste Training completion
  • Visible Emissions Certification
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and OSHA safety regulations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety and environmental inspections; prepare and submit reports detailing required corrective actions or maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the EHS Manager and Training Department to implement and maintain all SAFE system programs and Environmental Handbook requirements.
  • Serve as an EHS subject matter expert for Safety Champions, ergonomic committees, and the Safety Leadership Organization.
  • Maintain documentation and performance metrics related to safety recognition programs; escalate concerns as necessary.
  • Collect and compile safety and environmental data for internal reports and management reviews.
  • Act as a point of contact for hourly employees regarding health and safety concerns.
  • Coordinate and lead safety training and emergency drills for the Plant Emergency Organization (PEO) Team.
  • Facilitate New Hire Safety Training in alignment with SMS requirements.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Plant Engineering to address and resolve EHS-related work orders.
  • Monitor and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the SAFETEC system; support effective employee training in chemical safety.
  • Review contractor safety documentation and issue permits for non-routine work, Hot Work, and Confined Space Entry as needed.
  • Participate actively in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Manage paperwork related to the shipment of hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste materials.
