The EHS Technician will assist the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) in maintaining campus compliance in general safety, fire safety, lab safety, asbestos maintenance, hazardous materials, recycling, and animal control. This position is governed by government regulations and agency/institution policy.

  • Routine Safety Systems Inspection and Repair to include but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Lighting, Exit Signs, Smoke/Heat Detectors, UST Monitoring Wells, Eyewashes, Safety Showers, and other Building Devices
  • Fire Systems Maintenance and Inspection
  • Lamp Recycling
  • Safety/General Equipment Inspection
  • Animal Control
  • Miscellaneous Trouble Calls/Fire Alarm Responses
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • Two years of specialized training in electronics or related field.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to localize and repair mechanical or electrical problems
  • Ability to test and monitor equipment functions
  • Skill in performing fabrication work
  • Must have basic computer skills and some experience with MS Word, Excel, and Access
  • Ability to perform routine building, emergency safety, and fires systems inspections
  • Ability to use, operate, and maintain electrical tools and machinery
  • Must be able to follow instructions
  • Must be able to negotiate various types of terrain (such as slopes, steps, ditches, creek banks, brush and weedy areas, rocky and rough areas or muddy and/or wet areas)
  • Must be able to use/operate tools and equipment for extended periods
  • Must be able to climb ladders and other access equipment to roofs and other areas to repair, inspect, and maintain building systems
  • Must be able to load or unload a truck (weights varying at 60 lbs. or more)
  • Must be able to start, hold, use and operate hand tools and power equipment
  • Ability to operate various equipment with hand/foot control
