About The Position

The Early Head Start Center Substitute assists in providing a developmentally appropriate environment for infants and toddlers, promoting school readiness through education, health, and nutritional services. The role includes supporting classroom activities, overseeing food service operations, ensuring child safety and well-being, and engaging families in the educational process.

Responsibilities

• Team with Family Services Specialist to recruit eligible children and participate in orientation for newly enrolled children.
• Utilize Head Start Program Performance Standards, NMCAA Head Start Program Plan, and State of Michigan Licensing Rules to ensure program compliance. In the absence of teaching staff, provide primary caregiving duties and collaborate to create a developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Set clear behavioral expectations, prevent and redirect misbehavior using Conscious Discipline, and adhere to program protocols for behavior support.
• Assist in completing child screenings and developmental assessments.
• Ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment by following State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers, Great Start to Quality, and Head Start monitoring protocols for cleanliness, handwashing, and safety procedures.
