About The Position

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This role involves identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, conducting safety training, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations. The EHS Specialist will be a proactive and influential advocate for safety, fostering a positive safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Environmental Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in a safety-related role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing safety programs.
  • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control methodologies.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST).
  • Experience with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Experience in developing and implementing behavior-based safety programs.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain written safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Emergency Preparedness).
  • Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training based on job roles and identified hazards.
  • Maintain a system for tracking and documenting safety training completion.
  • Develop and implement safety communication strategies to keep employees informed of safety policies, procedures, hazards, and initiatives (e.g., safety alerts, toolbox talks, safety meetings).
  • Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to integrate safety into daily work practices.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to evaluate risks associated with specific tasks and processes.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate control measures to mitigate identified hazards, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain records of inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Lead or participate in the investigation of all workplace incidents (injuries, near misses, property damage) to determine root causes and contributing factors.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventative actions based on incident investigation findings to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Analyze incident data to identify trends and develop proactive safety initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date on all applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Act as a safety champion and role model, promoting a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Participate in and support safety committees and employee-led safety initiatives.
  • Encourage employee involvement in safety activities and hazard reporting.
  • Recognize and reward safe behaviors and contributions to safety improvements.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire safety protocols, and medical emergency response.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and exercises to evaluate the effectiveness of emergency plans.
  • Serve as a member of the emergency response team, as required.
  • Assist in the selection, fit testing, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure adequate availability and proper maintenance of PPE.
  • Conduct training on the proper use, care, and limitations of PPE.
  • Maintain accurate and organized safety records, including training records, inspection reports, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare regular safety performance reports for management, including key metrics and trends.
  • Collaborate effectively with all departments and levels of the organization on safety-related matters.
  • Communicate safety information clearly and concisely through various channels.
  • Work closely with Human Resources, Operations, and Maintenance departments on safety initiatives.
