About The Position

The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing environmental, health and safety support and ensuring that all practices are in compliance with Valmont policies and local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. This position is responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and its permitting applications. The incumbent will support the development and coordination of training programs in accordance with site and organizational programs. Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelors with 5+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 7+ years relevant experience or 9 + years relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers and general public
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-starter and a team player able to interact with all levels of employees
  • Ability to keep a positive, professional attitude in a fast paced, hectic environment
  • Must have a high awareness of safety at all times
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a manufacturing or related environment preferred
  • Ability and authorization to train employees in CPR/AED/First Aid

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates planning, organization and implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure that management takes actions needed to raise employee awareness regarding EHS matters.
  • Advises management on government regulations relating to health and safety, and recommends necessary action to attain compliance
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in preparation of material evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations, and participates in hearings as needed.
  • Participates in administration of workers compensation program, including working with insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims
  • Conducts regular safety inspection tours of facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective action or preventative measures where indicated
  • Responsible for OSHA reports and record keeping and maintains safety files and records
  • Devises, supervisors and coordinates mandatory and voluntary training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness
  • Conducts all required environmental tasks as required by Valmont policy and state and federal agencies.
  • Maintains all records for EHS functions for the sites.
  • Compiles and submits safety accident reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Conducts safety-specific new employee orientation
  • Facilitates and directs the activities of the site safety committees
  • Primary site contact for state and federal audits
  • Primary site contact for clinic regarding workers comp accidents
