About The Position

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA. We are looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to lead and facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of EH&S management systems necessary to ensure the assigned facility’s objectives are met and are compliant with all corporate, federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and industrial health requirements. This role will be responsible for serving as a resource to the Company to ensure Environmental, Safety and Industrial Health deployments are leveraged effectively and consistently on assigned projects and initiative at our TomaTek plant in Firebaugh, CA. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Engineering or related field preferred; or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
  • At least 3 years previous experience in the EH&S field; experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft office software applications; intermediate to excellent Excel skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule, weekends and any shift needed during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation and services to plant leadership regarding environmental, health and safety programs, operations, and compliance.
  • Advise plant management and Director, Corporate EH&S on EH&S management system and compliance issues and opportunities.
  • Communicate goals and objectives, oversee and promote the deployment of the plant level environmental and safety management systems and processes.
  • Work with other Company facilities and Corporate to design, implement, and audit best practices / processes for EH&S performance on projects as assigned.
  • Implement environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
