About The Position

The EHS Specialist is a vital contributor to FMA’s safety-first culture. In this role, you aren't just monitoring compliance; you are a dedicated partner focused on employee wellbeing and operational excellence. By blending technical OSHA expertise with a proactive, team-oriented approach, you will help ensure our Service Centers are not only safe but are environments where employees feel supported and choose to grow. The EHS Specialist drives employee success and retention by providing proactive safety mentorship and a professional, approachable presence throughout the onboarding process and beyond. The EHS Specialist drives the evolution of our safety programs, collaborating across all levels of FMA to advocate for, improve, and execute high-impact safety incentives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Experience in training using multiple forms of visual presentations and documentation.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills and the effective application of OSHA regulations.
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident public speaker capable of conducting group training activities.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use Microsoft Office products.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to adjust hours as support tasks may vary depending on service needs.

  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and additional equipment as required.

  • Comfortable working around moving equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Physical mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, forward reaching, and twisting.
  • Occasional squatting, crouching, and above-shoulder reaching.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example to foster an approachable, professional, and team-based safety mindset at all FMA locations.
  • Responsible for conducting, facilitating, and documenting safety-related training for new hires and current technicians to ensure a safe and fully trained workforce.
  • Manage the FMA Safety Training program to ensure employees are current on all annual compliance training.
  • Assist the EHS Manager in organizing and rolling out yearly safety "stand-downs" at all FMA locations.
  • Verify that technicians have completed the appropriate qualifications for their assigned positions.
  • Maintain all training records for FMA accurately and timely.
  • Support the Safety Champion program by conducting bi-weekly meetings and check-ins.
  • Perform site visits and safety audits at FMA facilities and local shipyards where technicians are stationed.
  • Report all work-related incidents to Workers' Compensation for FMA.
  • Manage safety opportunities with real-time follow-up and tracking of technician submittals.
  • Audit the safety program annually as required by OSHA (e.g., LOTO procedures).
  • Coordinate yearly OSHA drills (Fire, Tornado, etc.) and support Safety Champions in documenting these at all FMA facilities.
  • Review safety trends and goals with the EHS Manager on a quarterly basis.
  • Support the service DLA program through documentation, training, and related activities.
  • Maintain an active presence primarily in the service environment, with administrative duties as required.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office to create Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and written procedures in Word.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager.
