About The Position

The Safety Specialist is a hands-on, on-the-floor leader who monitors and improves environmental, health, and safety activities across the plant. This individual will develop training, conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and partner with all levels of the organization to ensure a safe, compliant, and productive workplace.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • 3–5 years of hands-on EHS experience in a manufacturing environment (automation/robotics exposure preferred)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC regulations, and ISO 14001 programs
  • Strong track record in safety training, incident investigations, and audits
  • Experience with workers’ compensation program administration
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to influence at all levels
  • Must reside within 30–40 minutes of Carol Stream
  • Bachelor's Degree in an EHS-related field and at least 10 years of experience or equivalent training and experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively address EHS concerns from front-line employees to local and corporate management.
  • Ability to manage projects to completion.
  • Experience with automation and robotics.
  • Operational knowledge and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of workers compensation and federal, state, and local Safety and Environmental Regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Experience influencing, training, and leading teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish and OSHA 501/503 certifications preferred
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • OSHA 501 / 503 is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and continuously improve NTA safety and environmental programs
  • Provide employee training, including safety orientation for new hires
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and job safety analyses
  • Lead incident, injury, and near-miss investigations; identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Administer workers’ compensation program and post-injury case management
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC, and all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain ISO 14001 certification and oversee audits and corrective action plans
  • Support and guide safety committees, promoting safety culture across the plant
  • Partner with consultants on industrial hygiene sampling and related activities
