About The Position

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled EHS Officer to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives across our research, development, and manufacturing operations. The EHS Officer will report to the Director of Business Operations and will be primarily responsible for 1) advising leadership on and implementing process and policy changes to support a prevention and risk management-oriented safety culture and 2) maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety regulations. This role requires the EHS Officer to both advise on and directly implement safety changes. The ideal candidate will have a strong (relevant) engineering or materials science background, as well as experience applying EHS principles in an R&D or production environment. This position combines hands-on field engagement with technical analysis, risk assessment, and compliance management to ensure a safe, sustainable, and compliant workplace. The position is full-time and compensation is commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Materials Science, or closely related technical discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in directly relevant roles supporting research, manufacturing, or industrial operations
  • Strong understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, EPA hazardous waste and chemical management regulations, and emergency response requirements
  • Experience developing and maintaining safety documentation, such as SOPs, hazard assessments, and environmental permits
  • Excellent communication and training skills; able to influence and engage technical teams and management
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements in technically complex environments
  • Ability to properly inspect and make updates to our facilities and equipment, which may require climbing ladders/stairs and significant walking

Nice To Haves

  • GSP, CSP, or CHMM certification
  • Experience with hazardous materials handling

Responsibilities

  • Supports positive culture change towards an injury-free facility through leadership, increasing employee engagement, effective training and coaching, internal safety awareness campaigns, on-the floor interactions, and policy development
  • Develops, implements, and maintains EHS programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations
  • Conducts risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and process safety reviews for laboratory and manufacturing operations
  • Partners with engineers and production staff to integrate safety and environmental considerations into new processes, equipment designs, and material handling protocols
  • Maintains RCRA hazardous waste, air emissions, and chemical inventory compliance documentation
  • Implements EHS training and risk management programs for employees
  • Leads incident investigations and corrective actions and supports injury case management, tracking progress and analyzing trends to drive continuous improvement
  • Manages reporting for environmental metrics, sustainability initiatives, and EHS performance indicators
  • Coordinates with facilities, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure equipment, infrastructure, and safety systems are inspected, certified, and operating properly
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of EHS budgets
  • Other duties as assigned
