The Parent Educator serves as a home-based teacher for our Early Head Start Program working individually with 12 families to support the development of the family and their infants and toddlers. The Parent Educator will work collaboratively with a team of other home-based staff to implement the Parents as Teachers Born to Learn model for children 0-36 months (or another curriculum as appropriate) to achieve outcomes for children and families of all backgrounds and abilities.

  • Recruits and determines the eligibility of children from underserved populations.
  • Maintains a waiting list for eligible children.
  • Develops an individual plan for children and prepares lesson plans.
  • Implements developmentally appropriate learning activities and supports parents to provide a consistent routine.
  • Establishes positive relationships with families and identifies their needs and goals.
  • Refers families to community services and coordinates with community agencies.
  • Participates in family events, developmental screenings, and required professional development activities.
  • Maintains child and family data for documentation and evaluation.
  • Plans and implements all socialization activities for families and children.
  • Understand and document in-kind contributions and other allowable costs.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Must have at minimum Child Development Associate credential for Home Visiting (CDA-HV) or willing to obtain one within an established time frame provided by Program Manager and must maintain credential throughout the entire length of employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, have held a driver's license for at least 3 years, and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies and educational materials.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing using English.
  • Strong organization and time management abilities with attention to detail.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, & Excel) and other software applications.
  • Active listening skills with the ability to ask questions for clarification.
  • Flexible schedule to fulfill job functions and program responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, especially parents of children in SCF's programs.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and apply knowledge of EHS program policies and procedures.
  • Other requirements include acquiring CPR/First Aid training, Live Scan Fingerprinting, negative TB results, physical, and passing drug/alcohol testing.
  • Prefer Associate Degree (or higher) in child development, human services, or a related field.
  • Six (6) months of experience in early childhood education or family services is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) speaking and writing skills are helpful.
