About The Position

The Safety Manager at Rex Lumber, Brookhaven, LLC is responsible for all aspects of environmental, health, and safety at the mill. This role involves working collaboratively with management, supervisors, employees, and outside contractors to develop and maintain a proactive safety program aimed at ensuring the safety of all personnel on the mill property. The Safety Manager will ensure compliance with federal environmental, health, and safety regulations as well as Rex Lumber's safety policies. Additionally, this position manages workers' compensation claims from post-accident investigations through to claim closure.

Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management or Industrial Hygiene, preferred.
  • Safety experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Management experience required.
  • Workers' compensation knowledge.
  • OSHA knowledge required, OSHA 30 Certifications will be required within the 1st year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on safety with full participation of supervisors, employees, and management.
  • Maintain knowledge of OSHA regulations and company policies to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct or facilitate monthly mill-wide safety meetings.
  • Conduct Drug Tests (Random and New Hires - with the assistance of HR).
  • Lead or facilitate weekly/monthly Continuous Improvement Team meetings.
  • Conduct or facilitate daily/weekly walk-throughs to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain all plant signage in good condition.
  • Train or direct the training of supervisors and employees on working safely.
  • Conduct routine inspections for fire prevention measures.
  • Maintain relationships with the local Fire Department.
  • Record all injuries and illnesses in accordance with regulations.
  • Facilitate OSHA 10 training for supervisors and maintenance employees.
  • Conduct safety orientation for all contractors.
  • Back up the Human Resources Manager as required.
  • Process new workers' compensation claims.
  • Investigate new accidents and review findings with management.
  • Maintain communication with employees, insurance adjusters, and medical providers.
  • Develop a good working relationship with local medical providers.
  • Maintain all documents pertaining to workers' compensation.
  • Review quarterly incident rates and set improvement goals.
  • Work closely with the General Manager and Corporate General Counsel on environmental policy.
  • Design and implement programs for compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Serve as the liaison with external governmental environmental agencies.
  • Monitor programs and maintain records required by environmental permits.
