About The Position

Novolex is a leading manufacturer of food, beverage, and specialty packaging that supports multiple industries including foodservice, restaurant delivery and carryout, food processing, grocery and retail, and industrial sectors. Novolex manufacturing and sourcing expertise spans a diverse range of substrates including resin, paper, molded fiber, aluminum and more. The EHS Manager (Environmental, Health, and Safety) is responsible for the overall daily operation of the Safety department including the environmental, health, and safety strategies as well as assisting in the development of any policies and practices. This incumbent is responsible for providing and promoting a workplace focused on compliance with all Federal, State and Local Industrial Standards. The EHS Manager oversees the accuracy and effectiveness of procedures, forms, work instructions, and communication to floor personnel, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and maintaining approval through all internal and external audits. EHS programs are being implemented, with leadership collaboration, to ensure employee awareness of risks and to reduce, avoid, and protect employees from hazards in the workplace, including occupational illness or disease. Maintain compliance with safety, and governmental regulations by identifying and analyzing problems, then finalizing, presenting the business case for suggestions and recommendations for improvements. Empower all employees to own safety through training, education, and leading by example.

Requirements

  • BS degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental related discipline and 5+ years experience in EHS or related field
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state-specific regulations.
  • Experience with hazardous materials, air permits, and environmental reporting.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a team player that interacts effectively with co- workers in group or in independent cooperative activities.
  • Ability to function under pressure and able to prioritize numerous tasks with conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work flexible hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Work with training department to develop and provide safety training for employees, assuring that we are providing a safe and secure work environment.
  • Oversee the investigation of work-related illness and injuries; investigating all accidents, near misses, or areas or concern and assuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Champion Human Performance principles through training, tools, and event learning teams.
  • Identifies safety hazards inherent in the organization’s operations and collaborates with operations, maintenance, and HR to address those hazards.
  • Assist with Worker’s Compensation claims for the plant.
  • Organize and facilitate employee Safety Committee.
  • Facilitate audits to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Coordinates emergency response operations including medical, chemical, fire and evacuation/rescue, designating responders, training, and scheduling drills.
