About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager leads all EHS functions across our U.S. manufacturing operations. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintaining a culture of safety across our operations. The EHS Manager serves as the senior authority on all matters related to occupational safety, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and related risk mitigation. The role has a major impact on the operations of the company and serves as an expert in industry standards and best management practices, including education and training. Frequent analysis and resolution of unique issues without precedent is necessary, including in response to various emergency situations. The ability to lead and support cross-functional management of safety initiatives is essential. The EHS Manager actively seeks out and acts upon opportunities for continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or closely related field required.
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state EHS regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to develop new strategies and outside-the-box ideas.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office, JDE, and EHS software platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company-wide EHS strategy in alignment with business goals.
  • Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on EHS matters.
  • Drive a proactive, preventive EHS culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead and mentor the EHS teams at each U.S. facility; coordinate global best practices with the Mueller B.V. EHS lead.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee permitting, audits, inspections, and reporting related to environmental and safety programs.
  • Serve as the primary representative of the company with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Lead internal and external compliance audits and ensure prompt corrective actions.
  • Ensure creation and submission of annual compliance program reports.
  • Manage the industrial hygiene monitoring and sampling program in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate storage and disposal of hazardous wastes and materials on all campuses.
  • Implement and manage industrial hygiene programs, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response procedures.
  • Establish priorities and develop policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with safety leaders at all domestic locations to ensure alignment of all sites with Paul Mueller Company EHS policies.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action plans.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, manage workers' compensation programs and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Maintain robust data tracking and reporting systems for EHS metrics. Identify areas of high risk and develop safety programs to address them.
  • Collaborate with operations to integrate EHS considerations into process improvements and capital projects.
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the safety department and across the domestic safety program.
  • Integrate Lean tools (6S, Kaizen, Standard Work, Visual Management) into EHS practices.
  • Lead or support Kaizen events and cross-functional improvement projects focused on safety, ergonomics, and environmental impact reduction.
  • Oversee design and implementation of EHS training programs for all employees, including onboarding, emergency preparedness, job-specific safety, and leadership development.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives around safety culture and environmental awareness.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the EHS counterpart at Mueller B.V. to align on global EHS policies, share best practices, and ensure consistent performance metrics.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national EHS organizations to maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
  • Develop and administer the departmental short- and long-range budget.
  • Support the development of direct reports through training, regular feedback, goal setting, and accountability.
  • Drive direct-report engagement in open book management through huddle attendance, financial education, and fiscal understanding and responsibility.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned, including backup for other departmental personnel, to ensure support of the departmental strategy.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.
