About The Position

The EHS Manager, North America provides leadership, strategic direction, and technical expertise for Environmental, Health & Safety programs across multiple manufacturing, R&D, QC, and distribution sites within the North America region. This role holds primary responsibility for developing and governing Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs—including chemical hygiene, potent compound exposure control, ergonomics, training, and OSHA compliance. The EHS Manager partners with site leaders, EHS, Operations, Quality, Procurement, People and Culture, and Facilities to ensure consistent compliance, standardization, and continuous improvement across all regional locations

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree with a focus in industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, EHS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS or IH experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, chemical, or related regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting multiple sites within a region.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and relevant state/provincial regulations; familiarity with Canadian regulatory environments.
  • Expertise in industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessments, data interpretation, and control strategies.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Willingness to travel throughout North America, primarily the United States; 10-20% first year; 10% the following years

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) strongly preferred; CSP or equivalent credential a plus.
  • Experience with potent compound containment and determinations (OEB/OEL).
  • Experience with GMP or cleanroom environments.
  • Experience managing or mentoring EHS/IH professionals across a distributed workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for regional EHS programs across multiple U.S. and Canadian sites.
  • Lead regional Industrial Hygiene strategy and standardize exposure assessment and control programs.
  • Serve as the regional expert in IH, OSHA, and Canadian regulatory requirements, supporting site teams and operations leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain regional EHS standards, program governance, and performance monitoring systems.
  • Develop and implement IH and OSHA-compliant programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead exposure assessment programs
  • Oversee chemical hygiene, hazardous materials handling, and HazCom program execution.
  • Support ergonomic programs and improvement strategies.
  • Evaluate and advise on engineering controls such as fume hoods, gloveboxes, isolators, local exhaust systems, and HVAC.
  • Develop and implement potent compound exposure control strategies (OEB/OEL classification).
  • Review consultant/auditor reports, validate recommendations, and ensure program consistency.
  • Develop and ensure consistent implementation of OSHA‑based safety programs (HazCom, LOTO, machine safety, confined space, PPE, respiratory protection, electrical safety, etc.).
  • Conduct or lead audits, site inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action management.
  • Drive proactive safety initiatives, improve hazard reporting, housekeeping/labkeeping, and risk prevention behaviors.
  • Lead and assign CAPAs resulting from incidents and findings.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response efforts across the region.
  • Oversee regional compliance for hazardous, universal, and medical waste programs.
  • Ensure adherence to EPA, DOT, state/provincial, and applicable Canadian environmental regulations.
  • Support environmental permitting, reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Provide oversight of chemical storage, spill prevention, emissions, and wastewater compliance programs.
  • Develop and deliver EHS and IH training to regional and site teams.
  • Coach and mentor site teams to strengthen IH competency and regulatory awareness.
  • Champion a culture of risk reduction, accountability, and continuous improvement.
