LOCATION: Story City, IA SUMMARY: Work in office and manufacturing environments to plan and implement projects and communications that will prevent injuries and ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • An individual must be able to perform the Duties and Responsibilities satisfactorily with guidance from the EHS Manager and EHS Specialist. Position requires self-motivation, a strong work ethic, and ability to take responsibility for work assigned and deadlines. Training or orientation to certain tasks will be provided where an otherwise-qualified candidate has no prior knowledge or experience.
  • Minimum two years of college or technical school; with two or more semesters with EHS coursework.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

This internship will include projects that involve working in close proximity to production machinery. This will require the employee to wear personal protective equipment for hearing, eyes and feet, and to maintain awareness of the manufacturing process and physical hazards such as moving hoists and forklifts.

Responsibilities

  • Support and follow all plant safety rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements
  • Document & analyze monthly safety metrics
  • Perform departmental risk assessments & provide continuous improvement recommendations
  • Review and update all JHA’s
  • Manage Safety Zone Inspection Program
  • Involvement with various safety teams
  • Assist with quality, environmental and food safety systems improvements as part of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and FSSC 22000
  • Involvement in OSHA VPP Program
  • Assist with the implementation of ISO 45001
  • Assist with the Incident Investigation Process
  • Publish/communicate safety information plantwide
  • Recommend modifications of existing programs and internal standards, to achieve improvements in safety and/or environmental compliance
  • Conduct OSHA regulatory research as directed
  • Other duties as assigned
