About The Position

Operate in compliance with any and all of the policies and procedures as established by NKCAC Head Start and the performance standards as established by the Federal Government regarding program operations to promote and provide quality service delivery to the children, families, and community of our service area .

Requirements

  • Prefer a minimum of an Associate degree in a related field with a minimum of three years of program experience or a BA Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • NKCAC- Head Start cannon employ anyone who has been found by the cabinet to have abused or neglected a child.
  • Relevant experience with infant/toddler children or related background.
  • Capacity to problem solve, handle a crisis, and work with families and children of various cultures from low-income backgrounds.
  • Experience in teaching young children in a Head Start classroom and/or similar environment.
  • NKCAC-Head Start cannot employ anyone convicted of a felony or has been found by the Cabinet to have abused or neglected a child.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Must have the ability to stand/walk/run after young children 100% of the time.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. up to 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with all components of the program.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of staff and clients.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in the annual self-assessment.
  • Attend staff meetings and training, as required.
  • Follow established child abuse reporting requirements.
  • Assist in recruiting and training parent and community volunteers.
  • Assist in securing in-kind donations to match the required non-Federal share amount for the program year.
  • Performance of any other work-related task deemed necessary by the direct supervisor.
  • Oversee all record-keeping pertaining to children and the classroom.
  • Assist in the coordination of the curriculum development, classroom management, and Teaching training program.
  • Gear the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for the child’s interests, disabilities, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Assist in planning and completing weekly lesson plans for the classroom.
  • Assist in diapering, toileting, and hand washing of children.
  • Help each child to become aware of his/her role as an integral member of a group.
  • Assist in planning the arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
  • Share responsibility with other classroom teachers to complete housekeeping responsibilities (wash toys, straighten shelves and clean shelves, etc.) on a weekly basis.
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting Parent/Teacher Conferences 2 times a year.
  • Complete two home visits a year with the child and family/guardian.
  • Complete the required assessments and screenings within the appropriate time frames to meet requirements.
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of Teaching Strategies Gold, Child Plus, and complete online assessment.
  • Provide education and support services to families.
  • Assures compliance with all program and grant requirements.
