JOB SUMMARY: The Early Head Start Home Educator is responsible for providing effective in home comprehensive infant/toddler child development services to home base families in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

Requirements

  • AA degree in Child Development, or related field; AND three (3) units in Infant/Toddler Care.
  • Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s).
  • Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours.
  • Meet and maintain KCAO employment requirements which include: Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI), National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), and the California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR)(Megan's Law).
  • Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License.
  • Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer.
  • Health examination with tuberculin clearance.
  • AND contingent on employment candidate will be required to provide documentation of your Measles, and Pertussis immunizations.
  • Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is highly preferred.
  • Influenza immunization highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan weekly 90 min. home visits for pregnant women, infants/toddlers and parents.
  • Participate in recruitment and enrollment of children.
  • Refer and transport families to community resources.
  • Assist with health screening and testing of enrolled infants/toddlers.
  • Perform or arrange for vision and hearing screening on infants/toddlers.
  • Plan and organize parent/child socializations, parent meetings and rap sessions.
  • Know, understand, and implement curriculum through planning developmentally appropriate activities
  • Provide support to families through needs assessment and scheduled home visits.
  • Coordinate activities with home educators, center staff, parents, supervisor and the management team.
  • Participate in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to infant/toddlers and their families.
  • Perform other duties as required.
