Manages the collection, storage, transportation, packaging, characterization and shipment of hazardous waste chemicals, conducts chemical maintenance of production chemical baths to support aircraft metal finishes, supports, fire protective services during hazardous material emergencies. Provides direction of daily operations to highly skilled/technical hourly Hazardous Waste Workers/Process Line Operators as required. Leader must be able to interpret and translate federal, state and local regulations as they apply to the handling, packaging, storage and shipment of hazardous materials/waste and industrial waste water pre-treatment. Responsible for developing work assignments, coordinating and scheduling subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training and recognition/disciplinary actions. Investigates and resolves compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from other areas of the business as well as customers. Leader must have the ability to interact with regulatory authorities and government regulatory agencies during audits and inspections. Leader must be knowledgeable in a highly technical field and able to implement policies and procedures to ensure that compliance with multiple regulations and reporting requirements are met. May develop and implement programs designed to increase employee awareness and knowledge of compliance policies. May audit and evaluate current policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance with government laws and regulations. Must have the ability to manage a workforce that is commonly a 24/7 operation. Specific activities required by the position include: Manage hazardous waste disposal contracts and associated budget. Establish waste collection process and implement waste collection efforts. At a site level, collect and characterize waste and arrange for disposal. Complete and sign manifests for hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, and hazardous material shipments; retain manifest records per regulatory requirements.
