The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.   About the team: The EHSS team is a diverse group of engineers and scientists that ensure the safety and compliance of activities at QuantumScape.  We interact with every department and integrate safety and sustainability into all aspects of the development of this cutting-edge technology.  Team members pride themselves on their ability to quickly adapt to ever-changing needs of QuantumScape’s technologists.    What we need: The EHSS team is seeking a hands-on mid- level EHSS engineer with the knowledge and flexibility to support the dynamic team at QuantumScape.  You will be part of the EHSS team that handles EHSS operations on a day-to-day level.  You will help develop and maintain environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs to ensure compliance, prevent incidents, and reduce risk.    You will build trust with all members of the QS team and bring integrity and customer focus to the implementation of EHSS programs.

Requirements

  • BS in chemistry, engineering, or related field
  • 3-5 years of work experience in EHSS
  • Highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills
  • Ability to approach complex problems by actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources, consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems and mastering unfamiliar information, tasks, and situations quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing environment with Facilities, Equipment, Production, and R&D leaders and staffing at all levels
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must demonstrate personal integrity and high ethical standards

Nice To Haves

  • MS in chemistry or engineering field
  • Experience working within a battery or automotive operations or manufacturing team
  • ASP/CSP certification

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of EHSS programs to ensure compliance, minimize injuries, and mitigate risk.
  • Conduct regular area inspections, document findings and corrective actions, and track to closure.
  • Coordinate and/or deliver EHSS training.
  • Participate in risk assessment and job hazard analyses.
  • Coordinate vendors to perform onsite tasks.
  • Ensure proper hazardous material and hazardous waste handling and storage.  Take effective steps to ensure that all required records are prepared and maintained.
  • Conduct and document regular inspections of safety equipment.
  • May participate in regulatory inspections or assist in investigation and preparation of reports on incidents.
  • Participate in the safe installation of new process equipment.
  • Support development and compilation of EHSS metrics.
  • Actively participate in Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee activities.
  • Complete all assigned training satisfactorily and on time.
