About The Position

The EHS Engineer - Air Permitting and Compliance Specialist role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. This position focuses on providing air quality compliance, permitting, and technical support to Kinder Morgan's natural gas business unit, operations, and engineering departments. The role may be filled at various levels depending on the candidate's experience and skills, and it involves significant interaction with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical or Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Exposure to an EHS field, preferably Air Quality, during an internship or equivalent.
  • Proficient in using standard spreadsheet, word processing, and database software, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact across multiple business units with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines successfully.
  • Capable of working efficiently in a team environment and autonomously as needed.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with emissions and compliance responsibilities for the natural gas midstream segment.
  • Familiarity with coordinating air compliance and management programs with operations personnel.
  • Familiarity with RACT/BACT/LAER, MACT/NESHAP, NSPS, and NSR/PSD.
  • Familiarity with CEMS and LDAR.
  • Familiarity with conducting regulatory analysis and developing cost-effective implementation strategies for air quality matters.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Information Systems.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and logical thought processes to identify and resolve data acquisition issues.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and submit compliance and emissions reports in accordance with air permit requirements and state and federal regulations.
  • Complete permit applications and obtain permits for new or modified facilities.
  • Support and maintain day-to-day compliance for assigned area/facilities, including reviewing and monitoring operating parameters.
  • Respond to inquiries from state and federal agencies.
  • Review and analyze results of emissions testing.
  • Track and interpret air quality regulations and advise management on potential concerns and issues.
  • Interact directly with federal, state, and local officials as required.
  • Provide 24/7 support to the company's emergency response and reporting requirements.
  • Represent the company on industry committees pertaining to air quality as needed.
  • Perform other daily, weekly, and monthly duties along with special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, company assets, and the general public.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with operations, engineering, and business development management and staff.
  • Proactively plan, organize, and oversee assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain regular attendance and a high level of job performance.
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, and evaluate the work of third-party air contractors.
