About the position

The Environmental Engineer/Scientist at Chemours will provide strategic leadership and program management for environmental programs, ensuring compliance with various environmental regulations and corporate policies. This role is crucial in supporting the Advanced Performance Material team at the Deepwater and Parlin, NJ locations, focusing on environmental and sustainability issues that affect the Chemours Chambers Works site.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership as a site environmental resource for environmental and sustainability programs.
  • Support permitting strategies for current operations and potential growth opportunities, including preparation of permit applications and modifications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies such as NJDEP, EPA, and local groups.
  • Manage environmental report preparation and submittals, including Air Emission Statements and Toxic Release Inventory reports.
  • Provide guidance for water and waste compliance efforts to adhere to various environmental acts.
  • Support air compliance efforts to demonstrate adherence to the Clean Air Act and other relevant standards.
  • Participate in audits and interactions with federal and state environmental agencies.
  • Drive practical enforceability for permit terms and translate requirements into actionable terms for Operations.
  • Complete environmental regulation applicability determinations and document them for future reference.
  • Lead investigations of environmental incidents and implement improvements to reduce future risks.
  • Participate in corporate focus groups on regulatory impacts and drive accountability for corporate goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (preferably in chemical or environmental engineering) or a scientific discipline (preferably in chemistry, geology, or environmental science) or a minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in an environmental capacity within the manufacturing industry.
  • Experience with environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in the development/preparation of environmental permits (Title V, NJPDES, RCRA, etc.).
  • Experience with RCMS, RC14001, and ISO14001 requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with New Jersey Regulations.
  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with environmental management software including Emission Master, LeakDas, and EtQ Reliance.
  • Experience with TSCA, RMP, and NJ TCPA programs.
  • Experience in preparation of Waste Characteristic evaluations for waste management.
  • Experience influencing/negotiating with others at various levels of the organization and with regulatory agencies.
