The Role: Our site in Colorado Springs, CO - Rockrimmon is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Co-Op to join our team for the Fall 2026 season. This assignment is intended to be 6 months in duration, beginning in June through December. What You'll Do: Participate in safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident prevention programs. Help develop or refine new-site safety documentation, SOPs, and training materials. Support initiatives such as chemical handling procedures, emergency response readiness, and lone-worker communication tools. Data, Analytics & Reporting Compile and analyze operational, safety, or quality data to support decision-making. Create dashboards, reports, or visualizations for site leadership. Assist in maintaining databases or digital logs for audits and compliance. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with engineering, EHS, quality, supply chain, and site leadership to support key projects. Participate in meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of lab or manufacturing safety (PPE, chemical handling basics, risk awareness).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Experience with data entry, analysis, or reporting (even at a school‑project level).
  • Comfortable reading or learning SOPs, technical diagrams, or process documents.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in areas with: Chemical storage (with proper PPE) Cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments Noise from equipment (hearing protection may be required) Temperature variations when moving between lab/production areas
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including: Safety glasses Gloves Lab coat or coveralls Hearing protection Steel-toe shoes (if required by area) Respiratory protection if needed (only after medical clearance & fit-test)
  • Ability to read written procedures, labels, SDSs, and digital displays.
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment or materials for basic safety and quality checks.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused in areas with moving equipment, chemicals, or high-tech machinery.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety instructions, signage, and hazard communication protocols.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in mid-May/June through August/September.
  • Must be familiar with the universities requirements to participate in a co-op program

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of continuous improvement (5S, Lean) is a plus.
  • Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry or Materials Science, graduating in December 2026 or later.
