About The Position

Applicant must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience, with environmental health experience preferred. Valid California Driver’s License with a safe driving record, DMV record required. Must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier. Must have current CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation. This position typing assignments involving specialized terminology and general clerical work of non-specialized nature. Typing speed of 30 wpm preferred and who is able to operate a computer using Excel, Word for Windows and various other programs. Specialized terminology in environmental health to type in final form technical reports concerning water and good quality issues, vector control, epidemiology and other areas of public health. Techniques for the collection and analysis of water samples, kilit testing procedures and other specialized field activities. Grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation needed to type a variety of material accurately from written sources or voice recordings. This is a temporary position with an expected duration of up to three (3) months, or less based on operational needs. Must be able to work with the Indian community, and be sensitive to the Indian Culture and its needs.

Responsibilities

  • Primary duties are that of EHS Secretary.
  • Secondary assignments include typing a variety of narrative and tabular material (e.g. staff studies, correspondence, reports, technical papers, manuals, charts, statistical tables) involving the following: 1. The continuous use of a wide variety of specialized terms requiring accuracy in spelling, and syllabification which may necessitate reference to specialized sources to assure accuracy of terms used (dictionaries, texts, etc.) 2. Responsibility for assuring the propriety of form and arrangements required by style manuals, or the use of judgement in originating form, spacing and arrangements, and preparation of material in final forms. 3. Statistical of other tabular material requiring independent determinations regarding form and arrangement when numerous headings and subheadings are present. 4. Selection, rearrangement, or consolidation of data from a number of sources based upon instructions indicating only the general nature of the end product or objectives to be achieved.
  • Receives visitors and telephone calls and refers them to the proper person or furnishes information requested.
  • Maintains and classifies a variety of files involving many subject headings and subheadings.
  • Obtains, compiles and summarizes statistical data in accordance with specific instructions or standard procedures.
  • Composes routine correspondence from brief notes, oral instructions or on the basis of precedents.
  • Prepares simple charts, graphs, tables, or other material.
  • Orders a variety of materials, supplies and equipment as instructed.
  • Assists with the procuring of bids and other information pertaining to environmental health projects.
  • Is responsible for the provision of as-built drawings, printed information and other technical assistance to the service population regarding environmental health matters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by department supervisor.
