SUMMARY: The EH&S Manager is responsible for helping to establish a culture of health and safety consistent with established business objectives, both locally and across the business as appropriate. Identifies the need for, develops, and executes safety and environmental plans in accordance with local, state and federal laws, to achieve a safety and environmental culture of excellence. The EH&S Manager is responsible for evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to safety and environmental requirements, managing safety, health and environmental training, investigating accidents and near misses, and managing corrective actions. Additional responsibilities include the maintenance of accurate and effective safety and environmental records and the tracking and evaluating of safety performance, as well as managing workers' compensation cases and issues consistent with business objectives. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with management to develop, maintain and update company safety expectations, requirements, goal and objectives, as well as devise a comprehensive plan, approach, and methods to ensure the development and maintenance of a safety and environmental culture consistent with established objectives. Devise methods of periodically auditing facility conditions, employee behaviors and safety policies/programs, locally and across the business as appropriate, to ensure OSHA and other safety requirement(s) compliance and identify opportunities for improvement and/or preventative measures. Analyze safety performance through audit reports, observation documentation, accident reports, statistics and otherwise; identify trends, issues and opportunities; and prepare and distribute to upper management reports summarizing the same in an effort to drive safety performance improvement. Develop, prepare and implement safety and environmental policies and procedures consistent with federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes and rules. Ensure necessary and adequate training for employees at all levels on safety and environmental matters (Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Waste, Confined Space Entry, Respirator, Forklift, etc.): orientation, annual, periodic, and ensure and maintain adequate documentation of same. Devise methods to periodically review and assess training effectiveness and employee conformity to safety policies and procedures through inspections, observations, audits, and other reliable means. Oversee and ensure thorough accident/incident investigations so as to determine cause, root and otherwise, and identify and oversee appropriate corrective actions. Manage the location worker's compensation program including, claim management and return to work efforts. Assist with Emergency Response situations that occur within the Plant or the Community as needed. Ensure all required plant facility environmental monitoring reports are timely completed and forwarded to the proper agency. Act as the initial contact for regulatory communications, initiatives and enforcement actions. Supervise the maintenance of all safety data sheets (SDS's) to ensure they are up-to-date and readily accessible at all times. Assist Human Resources (HR) in new employee onboarding processes related to safety. Other responsibilities as designated by management.
