Job Description The EHS Intern will support the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of programs and systems that promote environmental, health, and safety excellence. This role helps ensure the company meets or exceeds all legislative, corporate, and industry requirements, as well as best practice standards. The intern will work closely with the EHS team and site leadership to strengthen compliance, drive engagement, and support a proactive safety culture. This position is located in Freeport, Illinois.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in occupational safety, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Attention to detail and capability to analyze data and make sound conclusions.
  • Ability to participate in team-oriented projects to support effective corrective actions.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in all aspects of our EHS programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and management of safety programs – including LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, etc. to ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable environmental standards.
  • Participate in incident investigations by gathering information, preparing documentation, and assisting with corrective actions.
  • Assist in creating and delivering safety communications and training materials to reinforce safe work practices across the site.
  • Help maintain the Behavioral‑Based Safety program by collecting, organizing, and reporting observation data to ensure corrective actions are identified, resourced, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Support compliance activities related to regulatory permits, certificates, and required EHS documentation.
  • Assist with internal EHS audits to verify safe work practices, identify improvement opportunities, and support regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to EHS‑related training initiatives, including the development of training tools, presentations, and awareness materials.
