About The Position

The EEG Technician is responsible for performing electroencephalographic examinations as per established standards and practices, under the direction of a physician. This role involves operating EEG equipment, applying electrodes, monitoring various physiological variables, and ensuring the proper functioning of equipment. The technician also plays a crucial role in patient interaction, helping to alleviate anxiety and ensuring accurate test results.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous clinical EEG Technician experience or relevant internship required.
  • Certification preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Position patients on examination tables for optimal testing.
  • Translate procedures into layman's terms to relieve patient anxiety.
  • Operate EEG equipment to take electroencephalographic tracings.
  • Apply electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head and check performance.
  • Select predetermined electrode combinations and obtain standard recordings, recognizing artifacts and taking appropriate steps to eliminate them.
  • Record all abnormal clinical manifestations.
  • Use activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep.
  • Monitor other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electrooculograms, and respiration.
  • Transport EEG equipment to patient's rooms and various departments as required.
  • Calibrate and adjust EEG equipment, keeping it in clean, operating condition.
  • Detect instrument malfunctions and make minor maintenance adjustments or report the need for major repairs.
  • Abstract relevant information from patient's clinical records and obtain additional information as necessary.
  • File and/or microfilm recordings.
  • Complete and forward charge slips for billing purposes as required.
  • Assist in the training of technical staff.
