The EEG Technician performs electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings following established standards and physician orders. This role involves patient interaction, including assessing physical condition, abstracting medical information, and explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety. The technician is responsible for setting up and operating EEG equipment, applying electrodes, checking equipment performance, and obtaining standard and modified recordings while recognizing and eliminating artifacts. Activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep are utilized, and other physiological variables are monitored. The technician must recognize and respond to patient medical issues and physiological events to ensure safety. Recordings, including abnormal clinical manifestations, are obtained for physician interpretation. The role may also involve assisting physicians in surgical cases with continuous EEG monitoring, video monitoring, ECOG, and Wada mapping. Additionally, the technician transports EEG equipment and performs routine maintenance, reporting any malfunctions to management.
